Academics
Middle school academics are unique due to the transitional phase they represent in your student's educational journey. At Long County Middle School, we proudly serve students who are in grades 6 through 8 in the following ways:
Developmental Transition: Middle school students are moving from the more guided, structured environment of elementary school to the increased independence of high school. Academically, this means a shift from learning basic skills to developing more complex cognitive abilities.
Subject Specialization: Unlike elementary school, where students often have a single teacher for most subjects, middle school introduces subject-specific teachers. This allows for deeper exploration in subjects like math, science, social studies, and language arts, but also requires students to adapt to different teaching styles and classroom environments.
Increased Responsibility: Middle school students are expected to take on greater responsibility for their learning. This includes managing multiple subjects, keeping track of assignments, and developing study skills and time management.
Exploration of Interests: Academics in middle school often include exploratory or elective courses that allow students to pursue interests beyond the core subjects. At Long County Middle School, students may take classes like art, band, computer technology, health, physical education, study connections, agriculture, and weightlifting.
Preparation for High School: The curriculum is designed to prepare students for the more rigorous demands of high school. This includes building foundational knowledge and skills in core subjects, as well as introducing concepts that will be explored in greater depth later.
Long County Middle School is committed to our mission, which is to provide a quality education for every student within a safe and effective learning environment led by supportive and highly qualified professionals.
